Two goals in nine second half minutes left Mansfield Town in the League Two drop zone after relegation rivals Carlisle United leapfrogged the Stags with this comeback win.

Other results, with the likes of Dagenham and Tranmere winning, left the Stags, with just one win in 22 games, in trouble just a couple of years after returning to the Football League.

Carlisle fans cleared the pitch of snow to enable the game to go ahead, but the Stags – without the ill Chris Clements and the dropped Billy Kee – took the lead in first-half injury time when Vadaine Oliver headed in a Reggie Lambe cross for his fifth goal of the season.

However, the home side dominated the second half and after Matty Blair was stretchered off, they struck twice. First the Stags failed to clear a free kick and Charlie Wyke prodded in before the visitors lost possession after an attacking free kick and substitute David Amoo set up Kyle Dempsey for the winner.

Afterwards manager Adam Murray, with just two wins since taking over as manager, said: “I don’t know how we have lost it.

“We got ourselves into a winning position and never looked like losing the game and then conceded two absolutely awful goals.

“Dropping into the bottom two, it’s a low day for all of us.

“It was all about focus and a lack of concentration on our behalf. At certain times today we looked like we were going through the motions.

“I went with this side today as it had a lot of pace and energy. But we got caught up with the way Carlisle wanted to play and the game became scrappy.

“We never got hold of the ball and dictated play and the ball spent a lot of time ping-ponging around.

“They put a lot of balls into our box in the first half which we dealt with well. But we didn’t do the attacking side well enough.

“At half-time we told them to get the ball down and keep possession but we didn’t do that and then let in two awful goals.

“It is so frustrating the amount of points we have just given away to teams.”
