Great GCSE results for Samworth Church Academy students

Posted onPosted on 25th Aug

Principal at The Samworth Church Academy Lisa McVeigh said Year 11 students have done themselves, their families and the academy proud on GCSE results day.

“Overall, our progress and attainment has improved since 2019 when the last normal exams were sat, reflecting the hard work our students have put into their studies,” she added.

“They are a diligent, spirited, and fun bunch of young people who we know will go on to do great things. As always, we have a long term and ambitious wide-ranging vision to help all our students have fantastic lives after they leave us, and we will do everything we can to continue to build on today’s success in the years ahead.”

Chris Moodie, CEO of the Diocese of Southwell and Nottinghamshire Multi-Academy Trust, of which The Samworth Church Academy is a part, added: “I am delighted and proud of the achievements of the students this year. Many challenges have faced this cohort and they have worked very hard with their teachers to overcome them. Their futures are bright!”

Abeeha Khan (4 nines, 5 eights, 1 seven) said: “I am so happy with my results! I cannot believe that this is what I got, and I don’t know why I was worrying half an hour ago. I think I could have done better but this is what I am happy with for now. Hopefully I’m going to Nottingham High School for Sixth Form and then after that to university to study medicine. My parents are very proud of me. My mum was the one screaming with joy when I opened my results.”

Lizzi Jackson (Distinction Star & 9 eights) added: “I am incredibly happy with my results. I got a Level 2 Distinction Star and I’m counting one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine… nine 8’s!

“I was surprised with my English Literature because in all of my mocks I got 5’s and 6’s, so I was expecting maybe a fail! But my result is incredible. I’ve never seen my parents that emotional over anything, especially my mum, so that’s incredible too! In September I’m staying at The Samworth Church Academy for Sixth Form.

“I’m going to be doing Maths, Further Maths, RS and either Sociology or Psychology. I was particularly supported by Mr Conroy, my RS teacher and Mr Vallance as my head of year was brilliant – but don’t tell him I said that!”

Ashleigh Collier (5 nines, 3 eights, 1 seven) said: “I’m so surprised! I didn’t think my results would be that good, especially Science, Geography and Maths. I’m going to stay at The Samworth Church Academy in September to do Biology, History and Chemistry.

“I don’t know what I want to do long term so I’m picking subjects I enjoy. I want to go to university, but I don’t know what I want to do yet.” Ashleigh was joined by friends when collecting results. “I’ve sent my parents a photo of my results, but I haven’t spoken with them yet. They will be proud of me!”
