60 years of holiday generosity

Posted onPosted on 1st Aug

Freemasons have added their support to a charity that is celebrating 60 years of sending disadvantaged children on holiday in Derbyshire.

At a special celebratory service at The Old Meeting House Unitarian Chapel, Mansfield, Ken Purslow presented a cheque for £3,115 to Pauline Smith, trustee of the Send A Child To Hucklow charity, which provides holidays at Great Hucklow in Derbyshire for disadvantaged children.

The money, from the Freemasons of Mansfield Town Charity Stewards, had been raised via its annual swimathon.

The celebratory service was also attended by other Freemasons; Vivien Brown, representing the Blake’s Charity of Mansfield; and Marie Gash, representing Oak Tree Lane Primary School, which has benefited from the holidays.

The Sunday service was part of a weekend of fundraising towards the national charity’s 60th year target of £60,000.

On the previous day there was a coffee morning with a cake stall, book stall, name the teddy competition, and a chocolate tombola that raised £225.

The whole weekend raised £500 in addition to the proceeds from the Swimathon.
