Inspectors recognise positive changes at school

Posted onPosted on 21st Jun

A remarkable transformation at a Mansfield primary school is being celebrated.

Six years ago Ofsted inspectors said St Peter’s Church of England Primary Academy required improvement.

Now an inspection has announced that the school, which has subsequently converted to academy status, is rated Good.

To mark the achievement the chair of governors, Christine Bacon, held a celebratory party at her home for all staff and governors as a thank you, and “in recognition of their hard work and commitment”.

She said much of the credit for the transformation should go to head teacher James Marshall, who worked tirelessly to make sure the school improved in all years, in all categories, and in all areas.

“We are really happy with the report, and the inspection process in which the inspectors listened to staff, pupils, and parents,” he added.

“The inspection team recognised the hard work of the children, staff, and governors.

“As head teacher it has been a challenge at times over the past six years, but I could not be prouder of the outcome, especially for such a wonderful school and community.”

The lead inspector said he was impressed with the governing body and said the chair leads a strong team.

Chair of governors Christine, said: “My association with St Peter’s School goes back a long way, with it being the first school for my three children.

“The school holds a special place in my heart. I am so delighted that we are back where we belong — in the Good category. I am very proud to be chair of governors.”

The academy was also rated good in a SIAMS ((Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools) inspection that followed the Ofsted inspection because St Peter’s is a CofE school.
