Royal party fun for youngsters

Posted onPosted on 16th Jun

Children at an Edwinstowe school enjoyed a garden party and planted a tree for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

St Mary’s Church of England Primary School was joined by Coun Scott Carlton for the planting of the silver birch, which was donated by Edwinstowe Parish Council.

Headteacher Maria Parkin said: “This tree will be nurtured and cared for, and will be here for many more generations of children to enjoy, reminding all of us of this special occasion.

“Our celebrations were made so special by the attendance of our families and Coun Carlton. Our children understand the significance of the celebrations, and the Queen’s amazing 70 years’ service.

“We sang the national anthem, enjoyed scones and a great time was had by all.”

Teaching assistant Dawn Coleman added: “We would like to thank Linda Broom and Edwinstowe Parish Council for donating the birch tree, and ATTFE College for the children’s scones (see story page 4).

“We also thank our own cook and kitchen staff for helping to make this a very special day for our children and their families.”
