You can expect mischief, music and plenty of surprises as the Twirlywoos set sail in their big red boat at 1.30pm and 4pm on Monday 2 May. Join Great BigHoo, Toodloo, Chickedy, Chick and their friends as they discover the wonderful world around Mansfield for the early May bank holiday. The funny, loveable Twirlywoos are brought to life on stage with inventive puppetry promising an hour of colourful fun and laughter.

There is a chance to see homegrown talent on the Palace Theatre stage as Elly Jarman becomes Madonna on Wednesday 4 May. Before becoming the star of the UK’s top touring show celebrating the music of Madonna, Elly was getting Mansfield students into the groove as a singing teacher at the area’s secondary schools including Garibaldi. As well as recreating Madonna’s greatest hits – including Holiday, Like a Prayer, Papa Don’t Preach, Vogue, Material Girl and Hung Up – live on stage, Into the Groove also reflects Madonna’s reputation as a fashion icon.

Doctor Henry Jekyll is a good man. Successful within his field and respected by his peers, he’s close to a neurological discovery that will change the face of medical science forever. However, his methods are less than ethical and when a close friend and colleague threatens to expose and destroy his work, Jekyll is forced to experiment on himself, whereupon something goes very wrong…or very right. Suddenly Jekyll has a new friend, the brutal Edward Hyde. Gripping, stylish and thought-provoking, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is unmissable theatre, coming to Mansfield on Tuesday 10 May.

Beyond the Barricade presents exciting concert portrayals of the greatest songs in musical theatre, all performed entirely live by some of the best musical performers working today, featuring songs from The Phantom of the Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, Chicago, The Lion King, Blood Brothers and Hamilton. See the best of the West End and Broadway performed at the Palace on Friday 13 May.

A Comedy Store night on Saturday 14 May features MC Pete Otway, Manchester-based Mick Ferry, festival favourite Alistair Barrie and award-winning musical comedian Kate Lucas.

Hear the iconic songs of Billy Joel at Mansfield Palace Theatre on Tuesday 17 May in Uptown Joel. After being spotted on Broadway by one of Billy Joel’s associates, Billy personally chose Darren Reeves to play the demanding, energetic lead role of The Piano Man in hit West End musical, Movin’ Out. Hear all the hits including We Didn’t Start the Fire, Just the Way You Are, Tell her About it and of course Uptown Girl and Piano Man, all performed live by Darren and supported by a live 5-piece band.

Marking the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is Neil Sands on 18 May with Happy and Glorious; a show of song, dance and nostalgia.

A trip back to the 80s Live is promised on Thursday 19 May when live band Electric Dreams performs more than two dozen chart topping anthems from artists including Wham, The Weather Girls, Culture Club, Rick Astley, Madonna, Duran Duran, Soft Cell,  The Human League, A-Ha, Tears for Fears and more.

Waterloo – The Best of ABBA captures the unique ABBA sound and feel with incredible attention to detail by a full live cast and band, stunning costumes and breath-taking choreography. The iconic lyrics composed by Benny and Bjorn are sung in wonderful, captivating harmony from the opening refrain to the final sing-along chorus of this two-hour spectacular on Friday 20 May.

Imagine you could take a Magical Mystery Tour back in time to revisit the sound of The Beatles. Well now you can with Lennon Retrospective at Mansfield Palace Theatre on Saturday 21 May. Visualise a young John Lennon and you have Gaz Keenan. Add a highly professional backing band and from the very first note you will know this is a live music experience you won’t forget. Lennon Retrospective is a two hour show brought to you by John Lennon Tribute UK and it promises to take you on a journey through John Lennon’s popular back catalogue, serving up classic solos and early Beatles classics penned by Lennon himself. Songs include Jealous Guy, Working Class Hero and A Day in the Life

The theatre ends the month by taking you to Rock ‘n’ Roll Paradise on Monday 23 May. Backed by the dynamic brilliance of The Paradise Band, we pay tribute to the greats of that era, featuring the music of Elvis, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Jerry Lee Lewis, Connie Francis, Brenda Lee, The Big Bopper and Ricky Nelson, to name but a few.
