Ashfield Community Safety Partnership has secured £28,500 from the Office of Police Crime Commissioner to help upgrade five CCTV cameras across Kirkby.
Ashfield has a shared CCTV arrangement, which sees its public space CCTV cameras monitored from Nottinghamshire Police Headquarters 24 hours a day by trained operatives. They review surveillance footage that is used to respond to incidents, support investigations and identify perpetrators of crime and anti-social behaviour across the district.
Coun Helen-Ann Smith, cabinet member for community safety, said: “It’s fantastic that these CCTV cameras are being updated. The fact that they are capturing high-definition images will help make residents feel safer and deter potential criminals.
“The CCTV cameras, combined with the other projects, should reassure residents that Kirkby is a safe place to visit, work and live.”
The CCTV cameras to be upgraded are at Station Street, Kingsway, the Nags Head, Kirkby Market and Kingsway Park.
