Five tributes in one evening: The Traveling Wilburys Experience

Posted onPosted on 15th Feb

Perhaps the most famous supergroup of all time, the Traveling Wilburys, were formed by happy accident in 1988 when George Harrison enlisted pals Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison to help with a B-side for his latest single.

A band was born with the five legends of the music industry creating a sound like no other. And it’s that unique sound which is captured so brilliantly by Paul Hopkins’ tribute show, Roy Orbison and the Traveling Wilburys Experience, which comes to Mansfield Palace Theatre on Saturday, 5 March.

Now in its ninth successful year of touring, Roy Orbison and the Traveling Wilburys Experience has wowed audiences all over the country and beyond with their uncanny visual, vocal and musical resemblances to the original band members. As The Traveling Wilburys never actually got to tour – partly due to the untimely death of Roy Orbison – this is a chance to enjoy a live Traveling Wilburys concert.

Formed eight years ago by Paul Hopkins (who plays Roy Orbison), the band is a group of talented lookalikes and soundalikes who play in a relaxed style, with great respect for each other’s talents – much like the original Wilburys.

Hopkins, who has performed his tribute to the ‘Big O’ for 20 years, is joined by Mark Pearson who plays George Harrison, Aubrey Robinson as Bob Dylan, Buddy Baker as Tom Petty and Red Litchfield as Jeff Lynne. Add to that a very talented drummer and you have a two hour, 100% live musical extravaganza

The Show is a real up-tempo, feel good show where audiences are treated to a range of hits, not just from the Wilburys (Handle with Care, End of the Line, Tweeter and the Monkey Man), but also from the back catalogue of the famous five themselves. From Dylan’s Blowing in the Wind and Mighty Quinn, to Tom Petty’s always rousing Runnin’ Down A Dream. Other highlights include George Harrison’s Here Comes the Sun and Mr Blue Sky by Jeff Lynne.

The show also features big screen projection throughout, so join us for a great night of live music and a tribute to some of rock and roll’s most talented musicians.
