Turning pledges into pounds

Posted onPosted on 22nd Feb

A recycling pledge campaign has raised £1,000 for charity.

Veolia, which helps Nottinghamshire councils to manage household waste, said it was delighted that its Reduce, Reuse, Recycle initiative had again inspired residents to make small changes in their habits — raising funds for Nottinghamshire County Council chairman Mike Quigley’s chosen charity When You Wish Upon a Star.

During January, Veolia turned residents’ pledges of change into pounds, donating £1,000 to the charity.

Hundreds of residents across Nottinghamshire took part in the campaign to make a simple and achievable pledge to reduce, reuse or recycle their waste in 2022.

Coun Quigley said: “Thank you to everyone who took part in our campaign and made a Nottinghamshire Recycles Pledge during January.

“Your pledges will make a difference to both the environment and to the lives of children living with life threatening illnesses.”

Lea Hawkes, general manager Veolia Nottinghamshire, added: “We are, once again, impressed by the commitment and creativity shown by Nottinghamshire residents.

“It’s amazing how small changes to daily habits can make such a big difference — in this case to both the environment and a local charity. Many are really thinking about that next step towards a circular economy and pledging to switch to products that don’t create waste. Thank you Nottinghamshire.”

Alexa Wigfield, regional fundraiser for When You Wish Upon A Star, said: ‘Thank you Nottinghamshire for taking part in Veolia’s Notts Recycles campaign this year. The donation will go towards brightening the lives of children living with life-threatening illnesses.”
