The Idlewells Shopping Centre in Sutton is 50 on Saturday (13th November) and is celebrating with a special day of activities.
The day is themed on the 1970s – the centre opened in 1971 – with appearances from 70s children’s favourite Orinoco Womble.
The Womble will be appearing from 10-10.40am, 11-11.40am, 12.30-1pm, 2-2.40pm and 3-3.40pm. There will also be actors in 1970s’ fancy dress, stilt walkers, a giant number 50 for photo opportunities and for people to write birthday messages on, a replica clock cake made by Kirkby-based Tiny Fox, and an exhibition of the centre’s history by Sutton Living Memory Group.
