Nottinghamshire County Council is appealing for Ashfield people to become school governors.

There are 83 governor vacancies, 13.7% of the positions, vacant across Ashfield with residents wanted in parent, community, foundation and local authority positions. There are 26 parent vacancies, 14.1% of the total number of 159 posts, 21 community vacancies (15.1%) and six foundation governor vacancies (11.5%). Community governors are recruited from local people or businesses with the skills required by the specific school and foundation governors are appointed by the diocese, church or a voluntary trust.

A governor’s role includes monitoring budgets, appointing senior staff, including headteachers, and making decisions on the future of the school. No formal qualifications are necessary to be a governor and anyone who is aged 18 or over and has six to eight hours per term to spare is invited to apply.
