Upgrade for cycling links between Ashfield and Mansfield

Posted onPosted on 10th Sep

Residents in Ashfield could benefit from a scheme to boost cycling links with Mansfield,  following approval from Nottinghamshire County Council.

The proposed scheme forms part of the council’s bid for funding from Tranche 3 of the Government’s Active Travel Fund.

Should funding be granted from the Department for Transport, the county council will deliver a scheme at Kirkby Folly Road in Sutton.

It will upgrade the existing cycle facility on Kirkby Folly Road and Lowmoor Road, create a new cycle facility on Newark Road and Coxmoor Road, Sutton in Ashfield. The proposed scheme links Sutton Parkway railway station to Oakham Business Park, Mansfield, existing cycle facilities.

Coun Neil Clarke, chairman of the Transport and Environment Committee, said: “Our bid to secure funding from Tranche 3 furthers our commitment to making sure that walking and cycling are encouraged within our communities.

“Of course, we do not know yet what level of funding we will get from the DfT, however it is our hope that the Government will mirror previous levels of funding secured in 2020/21.

“Though approved by the Transport and Environment Committee, we must now wait until the Autumn to find out whether the DfT grants funding for these proposals, and if they do each of the schemes will be subject to a detailed planning and consultation process.”
