Nottinghamshire residents looking for a job or a new direction in life are being encouraged to consider home care work as a rewarding and fulfilling career.
The county council is joining forces with its four home care providers covering the county to increase the number of home care workers locally to meet the rising demand for this service.
Home care is increasingly popular as older people and people with disabilities want to keep their independence by living at home with care and support.
The providers are looking for caring and responsible people for the positions who will be supported by a training programme that will give them the skills to carry out the work required.
Part-time and flexible hours are available so people can fit the work around other commitments and home care workers do not always need to be able to drive as their visit rounds can be set up in their local area.
The council’s home care contracts insist providers pay their staff a competitive wage.
Coun Muriel Weisz, chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council’s Adult Social Care and Health Committee, said: “Home care workers have such an important job as without them many people would not be able to lead an independent life in their own home.
“There is also much potential for career development as many directors and managers within the home care industry started out as home care workers.”
The majority of people who are cared for at home are older people, but home care is also available for adults over 18 who may have mild learning disabilities, physical and mental health needs.
