Join the Great Jigsaw Sunflower Challenge 2021

Posted onPosted on 30th Jun
A Mansfield-based charity is urging people to join its fundraising Sunflower Challenge.
Jigsaw, a mental health and dementia charity that helps people with a hoarding addiction, is aiming to raise money towards the insurance and fuel for its new van.
People can buy sunflower plants for a minimum donation of £1 for the Great Jigsaw Sunflower Challenge 2021, which has four categories, each with two classes for the under-18s and over-18s.
Based at Mansfield Fire Station, Jigsaw has received a surge of referrals during the coronavirus pandemic but continued to offer support to those in need.
It recently acquired the van to deliver food, clothing, household goods, furniture and more to those in need and to offer a transportation service to take people to hospital appointments or to offer day trips out, activity groups or a befriending service.
A spokesman said: “The van needs funding to cover the insurance and fuel to operate. Our Sunflower Challenge will generate much-needed funding for us to continue to support the needs of our community.”
The four categories for the sunflower challenge are:
Tallest Sunflower – Take a photo of your sunflower with a measure beside it.
Largest Head – Take a photo of your sunflower head with a measure across it to show the diameter of the full bloom, from petal to petal.
Sunflowers In My Garden – Take a photo of your sunflowers growing and be as imaginative and entertaining as you wish with props.
A Crafted Sunflower – If you don’t have a garden, but you love crafting, why take a photo of a sunflower you have crafted; it could be knitted, baked, sewn, paper crafted etc.
Jigsaw is asking people to try to save their sunflower seeds and donate them back to the charity for next year’s competition.
To enter, call into the Jigsaw office at Mansfield Fire Station, Rosemary Street, between 9am and 3pm, Monday to Friday and buy a sunflower plant for a minimum of a £1 donation.
Alternatively, payment can be made at a Virgin Money Giving page and then take proof of payment to the fire station when collecting your plant.
Photos should be clearly identified as being taken in 2021 and posted on the charity’s new Facebook page ‘Jigsaw Support Scheme Fund Raising & Events’, with your name and age. All photographs should be posted by 24th September and winners will be announced on 5th October.
People entering are also asked you to name their sunflower. The best name will be chosen for the charity’s sunflower mascot, which will appear on the annual Sunflower Challenge competition.
