Helping homeless move to brighter future

Posted onPosted on 30th Jun

Mansfield Soroptimists have continued their work helping homeless people in the district.

President Julie Howe-Shilton and two members of SI Mansfield and District recently delivered 30 entrance/exit packages for residents of Mansfield District Council-run homeless accommodations.

Previously the club donated large amounts of bedding for homeless residents.

The entrance/exit packages consisted of practical items to assist the homeless with their personal hygiene and household chores, including a washing up bowl, dustpan and brush, washing-up liquid and toiletries.

The homeless recipients often have multiple needs and problems, some having suffered abuse and/or violence.

The service aims to provide shelter, stability and assistance for people to move forward to a brighter future. With appropriate multi-agency help, it is hoped they will achieve a degree of independence and eventually permanent accommodation.

The Soroptimist club said it was pleased to assist in this process and would continue to provide the packs throughout Julie’s year in office.
