Winter season unveiled

Sparkling winter enchantments weave their magic through the forthcoming season at the Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall Nottingham, from star-studded pantomime fun to classic fairy-tale Russian ballet, from headline names in pop and comedy to cosy family carol concerts.

One of the nation’s best-loved actresses, Lesley Joseph, will star as The Wicked Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs this Christmas at the Theatre Royal. Starring alongside her will be Eastenders heartthrob and Dancing on Ice champion Sam Attwater as The Prince, and returning by popular demand will be the hilarious Ben Nickless as Muddles and the irrepressible pantomime dame, Andrew Ryan, as Nurse.

Continuing the festive mood into January, Moscow City Ballet will present two of Tchaikovsky’s most popular ballets, The Nutcracker and Swan Lake, at the Royal Concert Hall.

Touching and witty by equal measure, Matthew Bourne’s magical dance production of Edward Scissorhands returns to the Theatre Royal in January, as does the National Theatre’s laugh-out-loud smash hit comedy One Man, Two Guvnors.

The laughter just keeps coming with Lee Mack, Noel Fielding, Jimmy Carr, Omid Djalili and Milton Jones visiting the Royal Concert Hall on tour this winter. For music fans, the venue will also play host to Imelda May, The Human League, Gregory Porter, Deacon Blue, Kate Rusby, First Aid Kit, Collabro, Sam Bailey and 10cc.

Back at the Theatre Royal, all will be revealed in The Full Monty, direct from London’s West End, featuring Gary Lucy and Andrew Dunn amongst an all-star cast. And stars don’t come any more colourful than Brian Conley, starring as the Greatest Showman on Earth, Phineas T Barnum, in Cameron Macintosh’s acclaimed production of Barnum in February.

February draws to a close at the Theatre Royal on a more poignant note with the recent West End hit, To Kill a Mockingbird, based on Harper Lee’s classic novel of compassion and injustice in the Deep South.

The Royal Concert Hall’s Nottingham Classics Season continues through the winter months with many highlights from The Hallé, Sinfonia Viva’s New Year’s Eve Classical Gala, the Johann Strauss Gala, BBC Philharmonic, the Sunday Morning Piano Series and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, plus the venue’s own Beanbag Music Club for little ones.

Home-grown talent will also get a chance to shine with the Nottingham Harmonic Choir’s two family carol concerts, plus Christmas in the City, Step by Step and Supergroup Showcase featuring Nottingham’s brightest rising stars.

Other highlights for the winter season include The Bootleg Beatles, Best of the West End, Christmas with the Rat Pack, Motown’s Greatest Hits, the Australian Pink Floyd Show, the Circus of Horrors, Brighouse and Rastrick Band, lifestyle guru Jillian Michaels and dancer Brendan Cole.
