College celebrates mental health awareness

Posted onPosted on 17th May

To celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week learners at ATTFE College, based at Sutton, engaged in a variety of fun activities that focused on Nature and five ways of wellbeing.

Learners enjoyed taking time to go outside and enjoy the benefits of being in the fresh air, creating artwork of flowers and their surroundings and discussing what they most like about spending time outdoors.

The daily wellbeing themes — Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give — were embedded into sessions where learners looked at ways of staying connected to others and the importance of having community and family links to create a support network.

Learners enjoyed being creative and challenged themselves by stepping out of their comfort zone and learning a new skill, such as book binding.

Katie Barrett, head of learner experience, said: “Wellbeing always remains a focus of everything we do at ATTFE College and it’s been so important for us to take part in Mental Health Awareness Week to raise awareness.

“We’ve offered strategies and tips and provided support for learners who have spoken up about their issues and concerns.

“It’s been a great week and we’ve had such a positive response from everyone involved with it.”
