Follow the yellow brick road to join in outdoor theatre

Rufford Country Park is the venue for a new, unique outdoor theatre experience being offered in June.

‘Oz – The Immersive Adventure’ is being presented by Nottinghamshire theatre company Copper Entertainment, from 2nd to 13th June.

Producer and director Harry Hindley, of Edwinstowe, said the evening productions, suitable for those aged five and upwards, was not just aimed at families.

“We encourage couples, friends or even individuals to experience this on their own, because whatever age you are, everyone can relate in some way to the Wizard of Oz,” he explained.

“Unlike ‘traditional theatre’, audience members will walk through the beautiful woodlands of Rufford Abbey and interact with actual characters and feel as if they are part of the classic story we all know and love.”

The production, which has performances starting from 5pm each evening and finishing at 9.30pm, promises outdoor theatre, dance, music and comedy, combined with some modern ‘twisters’ along the way.

Harry said theatregoers, guided by Dorothy herself, will be taken down the ‘yellow brick road’ through a magical forest, meeting the story’s well-known characters during their adventure.

“Uncover the classic tale like never before, featuring beautiful costumes, stunning surroundings, professional actors and a fantastic soundtrack — you won’t want to leave Oz!” he added.

Copper Entertainment are creators of immersive entertainment for a variety of attractions and productions across the UK.

Harry added: “After such a hard year for the entertainment industry it gives me pure joy to bring this wonderful production to near my home town.

“Not only are we encouraging families to step down the yellow brick road in this immersive production, we are creating work for actors — for whom the pandemic has been extremely difficult.

The hour-long show will require theatregoers to walk through forested areas. Audiences are limited to 20 members per performance.

Tickets are priced £16 for adults, £11 children and family tickets £50. To book go to www.copperentertainment.co.uk
