Thousands of thanks from charity to Amazon

Posted onPosted on 12th May

A Mansfield charity that supports local voluntary and community organisations has received a donation of £5,000 from the Amazon fulfilment centre team in Sutton.

The donation was made after a member of the Amazon team nominated Mansfield Community & Voluntary Service to benefit from a special Covid-19 initiative as part of Amazon’s programme to support the communities around its UK operating locations.

During the pandemic and lockdowns, the charity has been preparing and distributing food parcels and offering support and advice to people in Mansfield and Ashfield impacted by homelessness.

The charity plans to use the donation to help fund its support line and community outreach team.

Georgia Akuwudike, site leader at Amazon in Sutton-in-Ashfield, said: “We’re proud to support organisations such as Mansfield Community & Voluntary Service, which are making a real difference in our community.

“Its staff and volunteers have been a great support to people in our region experiencing isolation and hunger during Covid-19 and we want to lend a helping hand with this donation.”

Laura Levitt, who nominated Mansfield Community & Voluntary Services, added: “Mansfield Community & Voluntary Services is a charity close to my heart and I am pleased that it has been chosen to receive this donation from Amazon.

“I hope that it gives the staff and volunteers a boost during what continues to be a challenging year.”

Steve Morris, chief executive for Mansfield Community & Voluntary Services, said: “Like all charities, our services have never been needed more than they are now.

“Amazon’s support is hugely appreciated and will enable us to continue supporting our community.

“We have also been receiving food donations from the Amazon team since the start of March and have been able to distribute food items to many community groups, good causes and voluntary sector organisations throughout Mansfield and Ashfield.

“Thank you to Georgia and the team in Sutton for their continued support.”
