Baker’s shop and cafe opens

The latest business to move into Mansfield’s prestigious Queen’s Place was officially opened by the Executive Mayor on Monday.

Tony Egginton cut the ribbon inside Baker’s @ Queens – a baker’s shop and café selling homemade food and drinks both to eat in and take away.

He was joined by Coun Kate Allsop, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration at Mansfield District Council, and officers who worked on the Queen’s Place redevelopment.

The business is run by husband and wife team Mark and Amanda Shetliffe who have employed 16 new staff at Queen’s Place. It is an expansion of their family-run business that also includes Dalestorth Bakery, on Hermitage Lane, and catering at Mansfield i-Centre on Hamilton Way.

Amanda said: “We decided to bring the business into town as we are from Mansfield. We love the premises – the building really stands out. In the first week we served more than 1,500 customers and the feedback so far has been fantastic. We have had a lot of return customers and some have even been in every day since we opened.

“We are very grateful for all the help and support we have received from the Council – we’d definitely recommend Queen’s Place to other businesses.”

The Mayor said: “We are very pleased to welcome Baker’s @ Queens to our award-winning Queen’s Place. The thriving business is a fantastic addition to the town centre and we wish it all the best for a very successful future. Queen’s Place offers businesses a prime location at very competitive rates and is a great example of how the Council is continually working to regenerate the District.”

Office tenants in Queen’s Place include the Transline Group, JT Recruit Ltd and Precedo Healthcare Services.

Queen’s Place is a town centre gateway within yards of Mansfield’s state of the art, award-winning bus station. It boasts excellent green credentials, having received a BREEAM award, which sets the standard for best practice in sustainable building design, construction and operation.

It is equipped with some of the best insulation materials, low-energy lighting, solar panels and a green roof, all of which contribute to the building’s impressively low running costs.
