Cyber-crime advice video a winner

Posted onPosted on 30th Mar

A clever Mansfield youngster won a Nintendo Switch after she came second in a countywide competition on cyber crime.

Evie Dickinson, a Year 6 pupil at High Oakham Primary School, created an informative and fun video on hacks and scams for the competition, organised by Nottinghamshire Police with teacher and TV personality Baasit Siddiqui.

Nottinghamshire Police cyber protect and prevent officer Kirsty Jackson and Siddiqui Education also created online lesson plans.

She said: “The judges and I were blown away by the fantastic and creative entries received. I’ve had so much fun running this competition, especially judging them, and handing out those well-deserved prizes.

“Sadly, we see online accounts being hacked regularly, including email and social media.

“Evie did a great job sharing our advice to help people reduce the risk of this happening to them by keeping passwords separate and secure, using three random words mixed with numbers and symbols for more security.

“For more information to help you manage and save passwords, visit www.ncsc.gov.uk/cyberaware/home.”

The competition for nine to 13-year-olds aimed to help children learn about cyber crime. Interactive lessons are still available to be downloaded on the force’s website and give pupils tasks as well as information around the Computer Misuse Act.

Lee Tod, of Blidworth Oaks Primary School, won a £25 Amazon gift voucher.
