A grit-bin campaign for the Ashfields estate in Sutton, led by councillors Jason Zadrozny and Tom Hollis (pictured), has ended in victory.
They presented Nottinghamshire County Council with a petition. The council has agreed to supply four bins and enlarge another.
The councillors, who have been battling for more than two years after receiving dozens of complaints from residents, are now pressing for the estate to be included on the county’s gritting route.
Coun Hollis said: “Everytime we have snow, the estate is an absolute nightmare. It was clear the estate was being ignored when it came to protecting residents from the hazards caused by frost and snow.”
Coun Zadrozny, who previously raised the issue at a county meeting said, “The estate was dangerous during snow.
“The council was not fulfilling its duties to residents on the estate. Even the Woodlands Medical Centre on Bluebell Wood Way was unprotected.”
The extra bins will be at Crowtrees Drive/Calladine Close, Highland Drive, Bluebell Wood Way (near Woodlands Medical Centre) and Lynton Drive. The bin on Castlewood Grove will be made bigger.
