Rainbow welcomes youngsters back to school

Leamington Primary and Nursery Academy welcomed back their home learning children in colourful style this week under a rainbow of balloons at the Sutton school’s gate.

Kaye McGuire, head teacher, said: “We wanted to show our children just how much they had been missed, and how much we valued the parental contribution during remote learning.

“Our first week back concentrated on the personal health and wellbeing of children, to support their return” said Kaye. “Monday was a wonderful day. The children in this community are so special and we are delighted to have them back under one roof. They have all coped with remote learning so well and we are incredibly proud of their achievements in such challenging times.”

Throughout their first week back, children spent their time reconnecting with their friends and adults within school and based their learning on a story written about the pandemic called ‘The World Made a Rainbow’.

Kaye said they used the story’s theme for special events as well as learning. “On Thursday, children were invited to dress in a specific colour- each year group representing a colour of the rainbow. Each bubble was then photographed separately in order to digitally create a full rainbow, representing our connectivity as a school!”

On Friday each child received a copy of the story text and the rainbow image to take home along with a thank you to parents. “We want to thank parents for supporting the school in its mission to give children the best education possible.” said Kaye.  “The children have returned and once again the sound of children fills the school… just as it should!”
