Have your say on Ashfield travel schemes

A consultation on new measures to improve walking and cycling in Ashfield is under way.

A proposal for a new two-way cycle route on High Pavement will form part of the £2.8m allocation from the Department for Transport (DfT) to Nottinghamshire County Council’s Active Travel Fund.

The shared use footway/cycle way is proposed to run from Station Road to Silk Street and also between Mill Street and Langton Road in Sutton in Ashfield.

Other measures include changing the existing crossing at the High Pavement junction with Station Street to a toucan crossing as well as upgrading other dropped crossings.

Coun John Cottee, chairman of the Communities and Place Committee at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “Embedding walking and cycling into people’s daily lives for leisure or work will help achieve a number of our council objectives including health, the environment, and reducing journey time delay.  In addition, the proposals will help to avoid overcrowding on public transport as the economy restarts.

“I’d encourage local people to have a look and find out more and have a say on the proposal before the consultation closes on Thursday 1 April.”
