Glass recycling bins being delivered

Posted onPosted on 4th Feb

Residents across Mansfield district are starting to receive their recycling bins for glass from this week ahead of kerbside glass recycling collections starting in April.

All colours of glass bottles and jars that have had lids removed can be put in the bin, which is black with a teal coloured lid. Other types of glass, such as pyrex, mirrors, light bulbs and drinking glasses, can’t go in the bin.

The Mayor of Mansfield, Andy Abrahams, said: “The arrival of the bins is a really exciting step towards our free kerbside glass recycling collections starting in spring.

“The scheme will be better for the environment, increase the amount we recycle, and reduce the amount of glass going to landfill or for incineration. We also hope it will reduce the contamination of recyclable materials in existing blue bins.

“It is a key part of the council’s agenda to be a cleaner, greener and more welcoming district and this is a major step towards achieving this goal. Thank you to Coun Andy Burgin, portfolio holder for environment, for his involvement in bringing the project to fruition after many years of discussions.”
