Photography competition winners focused on Ashfield industry

Posted onPosted on 4th Jan

Successful Ashfield industries were the focus of photographers for an annual competition in the district.

The second Discover Ashfield Photography Competition, run by Discover Ashfield with Ashfield District Council, aimed to find photographs that promote and increase awareness of the area.

This year the brief was to photograph urban landscape, with a focus on successful industry that is based in Ashfield.

The images also had to represent one of the four strands of Discover Ashfield — Love Where You Live, More to Discover, Places to Enjoy and Succeed in Ashfield.

The winners were: Jiri Madlo with Morning Kirkby, Jayne Moore with Spring Serenity, David Curry with The Train Station, and Jeanette Carter with Kirkby Men in Sheds.

They received a £100 High Street voucher and a trophy, which was presented to them outside the council offices in Kirkby.

Chairman of Discover Ashfield Board Martin Rigley, who was part of the judging panel, said: “I was delighted to have the chance to judge the second Discover Ashfield Photography Competition.

“The change of brief meant that we got to see a different side to Ashfield.

“I was particularly pleased to see images that represent the manufacturing industry that is booming in Ashfield.

“The competition once again showed the best sides of the district.

“There were so many brilliant entries to choose from, it was a difficult decision for the judging panel, but the four winners really stood out.

“Their photographs are instantly recognisable as being in Ashfield.”
