Ongoing fundraising by supporters of the Amazon Breast Cancer Support Group has meant great news for people using King’s Mill Hospital, Sutton.
State-of-the-art breast screening tomosynthesis technology has been installed in the Breast Care Unit at the hospital and the Amazons charity have donated £30,000 to pay for it.
The new technology creates advanced imaging, obtaining multiple X-rays from different angles that can be cross-sectioned and used to construct 3-D images.
Trials have showed increased detection rates of breast cancer (up to 40%) and reduction in having to recall patients not needing further investigations.
Beryl Perrin, of the Amazons, said: “We are very pleased to be able to continue our work for King’s Mill patients, even in these strange times.”
