Council chief aims to help the visually impaired

Posted onPosted on 2nd Oct

The chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council is continuing his work to gather support and donations for My Sight Notts.

Coun Stuart Wallace, as featured in the News Journal in September, is supporting the charity during his year in office.

As part of National Eye Health Week, Coun Wallace learned more about the charity and how it help the local community.

To raise awareness of the importance of eyesight tests and to help raise funds for the charity, he volunteered to wear a pair of simulation glasses, which replicate sight loss caused by Macular Degeneration.

Michael Conroy, chief executive at My Sight Notts, welcomed the support from Coun Wallace.

“Visually impaired people are amongst the most socially isolated in our communities and the pandemic has made the situation worse because many people with sight loss struggle to maintain social distancing as they cannot see others around them and are afraid to go out alone,” he said.
