VIDEO: Police give six-year-old birthday surprise

A six-year-old Mansfield girl received a surprise birthday visit from local police community support officers.

Coronavirus lockdown had spoiled Eva Duffus Bentley’s birthday plans, but her mum, Helen Bentley, had emailed her local Neighbourhood Policing Team to organise the surprise.

She said: “Eva was delighted to see the officers on her birthday.

“They showed her the lights on their police car and although she couldn’t sit in the car because of social distancing, she was really excited.

“My son, who’s eight, actually thought the police had come to get him because he was being a bit naughty that morning!

“Normally we would have a birthday party, but this year we haven’t been able to so it was going to be a bit of a let-down for Eva.

“She’d like to be in the mounted police when she’s older, and my son wants to be in the armed response unit – so we could have a couple of future officers on our hands!

“It was lovely of them to take time out of their busy schedule – it was much appreciated.”
