Still time to sign up for garden waste service

Posted onPosted on 22nd Jun

Mansfield District Council says people can still sign up for its garden waste (brown bin) service.

Residents can sign up online here and those with more garden waste to dispose of can buy up to three additional bins. For those with smaller gardens or limited storage space, the council can provide smaller 120-litre garden waste bins to suit your needs.

Coun Andy Burgin, portfolio holder for the environment and leisure, said: “It’s wonderful that so many of our district’s residents have discovered the pleasure of gardening to make their homes look more attractive and to help pass the extra time they have had on their hands while we all have had to stay at home over the past few months.

“We hope this continues as we all take the small steps into the recovery phase and that residents use the council’s garden waste service to help dispose of their green waste.

“Now that garden centres are open again, residents can add the finishing touches to create beautiful gardens to enjoy during long-awaited socially distanced catch-ups with family and friends. It’s great that so many more of our district’s residents are taking pride in their gardens and helping to make Mansfield look blooming marvellous!”

Garden waste collections are fortnightly from March to November with one collection during December and no collections in January and February.

Customers need to ensure they mark their brown bin clearly with their house number so that crews can identify which need emptying by using in-cab technology linked to the payment system.

People can use their brown bin to recycle:

• grass cuttings
• hedge trimmings
• leaves
• small branches and twigs
• plants
• weeds
• cut flowers.

Do not put the following in your brown bin:

• food and kitchen waste
• garden furniture
• treated wood
• soil, bricks or rocks
• large logs
• building waste.
