Sweet touch from two caring sisters

Posted onPosted on 12th May

Mansfield sisters Scarlet and Ella Newton-Aitken came up with a sweet way to raise money for the NHS during the coronavirus crisis — making fudge.

Scarlet (13) and Ella (11) (below), who were helped by their older sister, Jenna (21), raised £300 after originally aiming for just £100.

The Samworth Church Academy pupils sold the fudge to family and friends.

Their proud mother, Michele Aitken, said: “It all started with a baking activity to keep them busy during lockdown.

“We decided to extend their learning by imagining they could open a fudge business.

“So they sourced recipes, wrote shopping lists, calculated costs and decided to make the fudge to sell to our family and friends to raise money for the NHS.

“We originally set a target of £100, although it became very popular and they ended up making more fudge with the grand total of £300 being made.

“We are very proud of our daughters raising money for such a good cause that is close to our hearts and well done for all the hard work they put in.

“Also a huge thank you to our family and friends who bought all the fudge.”
