Youngster gets on his bike for two good causes

Posted onPosted on 14th May

A seven-year-old Mansfield boy is using the lockdown during May to raise money for two causes close to his heart.

Zach Kedzior rode 150 miles during the month to thank the neonatal intensive care unit at King’s Mill Hospital, Sutton, and the Emily Harris Foundation, which both helped him and his family when he was born seven weeks prematurely.

The foundation supports the unit by helping staff with training costs not backed by the NHS and families whose babies need treatment there with financial support — and much more.

Zach’s family said the effects of the coronavirus had been felt by many hospitals and charities and they wanted to do their bit to help.

He is riding daily, whatever the weather, and has already smashed his £150 target to raise hundreds of pounds.

Zach’s father, Gustave Kedzior, said: “Zach was desperate to help with any fundraising efforts. We helped him come up with ideas of things to do to raise money and eventually settled on cycling.”

His parents set him a 100-mile target but the youngster decided to go further and is aiming for 150 miles.

Gustave added: “We’re so proud of him. He is so caring, teachers are always telling us about how he’s always helping other kids at school who seem to need it. It’s quite rewarding to see him helping others for ourselves.”

Zach said: “The bike ride is really good. It helps me get fit. I think the money can help the hospital that once helped me so much.”
