Coronavirus: Dance school uses internet and the outdoors to continue lessons

Posted onPosted on 20th Mar

A Kirkby dance school principal has come to the rescue of its young members who faced going for weeks without their regular lessons during the coronavirus pandemic.

Caroline Lane, of the Christine March School of Dance, Kirkby, closed its doors on Tuesday as part of the government’s social distancing advice.

However, Caroline and parents were concerned that their children would not have any dance classes to attend with many of them having been dancing at the school since they were toddlers.

Then she came up with the idea of teaching lessons and routines via the internet.

Separate Facebook groups have been set up for each class at their usual times and private lessons are also through the Zoom app.

Youngsters can also take part in outdoor classes that are planned.

Caroline said they would be limited to groups of 10 and the school will always keep government guidelines for social distancing in mind.

“It will be good to get the dancers outdoors with the weather being set fair for a few days,” she said.

“People must contact me first as we are limited to the number of people. It is for our members but if other dance schools wanted to get in touch I am sure we could join together in some way.”

The first outdoor lessons are planned for Berry Hill Park, Mansfield, from 10am to 1pm on Saturday. They will also be held at Kingsway Park, Kirkby.
