Boost for mental health services thanks to funding

Posted onPosted on 17th Mar

Ashfield Citizens Advice and Nottinghamshire Mind are to provide support for clients visiting Citizens Advice with problems that also affect their mental health — thanks to community funding.

As a result of a successful bid to the Romo Community Fund through Nottinghamshire Community Foundation, clients will be able to access support from one of Mind’s mental health recovery workers based on-site at the Kirkby offices.

The initiative, starting in April, is based on other projects in the county that have seen a huge increase in their clients’ confidence and ability to cope as a consequence of the service.

Kathryn Stacey, chief executive at Ashfield Citizens Advice, said: “We’ve been trying to deliver a live project to help our clients suffering from mental health issues for nearly two years and are absolutely delighted that Romo Group have supported this worthwhile project.

“Mental health issues can affect anyone and when people hit a crisis point in their life it’s typically accompanied by mental health problems; having specialist mental health support helps our clients to deal with their problems better and avoids more complex issues that can result.”

Nic Roberts, chief executive at Nottinghamshire Mind, said it had been working closely with Citizens Advice Ashfield for many years, but due to funding constraints the services had been adhoc.

“This funding gives us a chance to cement the relationship between the two organisations and make a difference to the lives of clients who rely on Citizens Advice Ashfield but need a greater level of support with underlying mental health issues,” she added.

Felicity Mould, director at Romo Group, said: “Romo is extremely proud to support Ashfield Citizens Advice joint project with Nottinghamshire Mind in delivering mental health support in Ashfield. We recognise the importance of having access to specialist mental health professionals at times of crisis.”
