Riding for the disabled charity has a new home

Posted onPosted on 11th Mar

A charity that gives disabled people the chance to go horse riding has thanked supporters for helping it make the switch from Rainworth to Kings Clipstone — and appealed for more volunteers to help out.

Woodside Farm Stables Riding for the Disabled charity hopes to resume activities at its new home in April.

Both Sutton Freemasons and the Thomas Farr Charity have made donations towards costs incurred by the charity in moving from Woodside Farm Stables, Rainworth, to Eastfield Farm, Kings Clipstone.

The money will be of particular help towards replacing items of tack suitable for disabled riders and in meeting the maintenance and veterinary costs essential for ensuring the horses are fit, healthy and comfortable in their work.

Woodside said: “Support such as this at a time of change and challenge has been particularly appreciated by the Woodside team of trustees and volunteers.”

Horse riding activities had been suspended for several months, pending the switch. To introduce everyone to the new location a Friends and Family Day was held at the farm in February, courtesy of farmer Philip Wilson.

Almost 70 people — riders, their parents, siblings and volunteers — were given a tour of the premises and a riding display by Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) coach in training Ayla Johnson. There was also a buffet, donated by the participants.

The Woodside Farm Stables RDA charity is to soon changing their legal status to that of a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) with a new name yet to be confirmed, but possibly Sherwood Riding for the Disabled.

Further volunteer help is needed, particularly on Saturday mornings. Further information on joining the team can be obtained from charity secretary Winifred Pritchett on 01623 627974 or email [email protected]
