Gambia appeal inspires Inner Wheel

Posted onPosted on 13th Feb

At the February meeting of the Inner Wheel Club of Warsop, members heard about the work being done by a charity in Africa.

Pam McConnell, from the Bolsover Inner Wheel Club, and Margaret Day, vice-chairman of District 22, explained about the charity’s work with The Gambia School Appeal.

The charity was founded by the late Rotarian, Ken Alcock, and his Inner Wheel member wife, Iris,

Pam and Margaret are trustees of the charity together with Christine Toyne and all Inner Wheel District 22.

Since its inception in 1988 the charity has helped to fund educational supplies and equipment, and projects such as kitchen buildings, pit latrines, well digging and piping water to schools and villages, serving many hundreds of children living in the North Bank region of The Gambia.

A spokesman for Warsop Inner Wheel said: “The ladies inspired us with their stories and of their work with The Gambia School Appeal.

“If anyone has any children’s reading books (non-religious) or games that they would like to donate to this amazing charity, please contact Pam or Margaret.”
