Children in Need fundraising is a cut above at Samworth

Samworth Church Academy students set themselves a challenge to raise as much money as possible for Children in Need this year.

As well as giving a donation for a non-school uniform day at the Mansfield academy, students were also able to vote to ‘gunge’ three teachers, as well as vote for one to get a fake tan, and another to have their legs waxed – all in front of the whole school audience.

Jack Hardman (Yr13) also pledged that if he could raise over £1,000, then he would have his hair shaved.

He said: “I wanted to go out of my comfort zone and do something for Children in Need. I had been campaigning that if we raised over £1,000 I would shave my head and we now have over £2,100 in total.

“We have 1,100 students approximately here, which means we have raised another £1000 on top of any donations they made to come in non-uniform. Everybody enjoyed having a vote on the ‘Gunge your Teachers’ and we raised a bit of money with a cake sale as well.”

Jack said: “I want to say thank you to the leadership team at Samworth for making this possible, and all of the students, and also people at my workplace, Tesco, where many have put their hands in their pockets to donate in the hope that I come to work without any hair.

“Everybody wanted to do this. People out there need our support and we knew that we had a chance to do our bit.

“We want other children to have the opportunity to have a fantastic life and have the chances that we have. Each person counts and I believe we should put others first.

“I am fortunate to have a good life and I want to give back to other people and with the help of everyone at Samworth Church Academy, we hope that that is what we have done!”
