Charity golf day tees up £800 for college

Posted onPosted on 12th Sep

The Clifton Masonic Lodge raised more than £800 for Portland College at its Charity Golf Day at Ramsdale Golf Course, Calverton.

The event included an 18-hole game, a tombola, a BBQ and a silent auction, made up of generous prizes donated by local businesses.

There were 12 teams from local businesses, masonic teams and friends and family.

Lowdhams Motors sponsored the event, and local businesses including Veritas, Ben Horton Builders, Crowd Pullers, Orston Shooting Club and Hoot Security sponsored holes around the course.

Prizes were awarded for best team score, best individual score, longest drive and nearest the pin. The lowest score won tickets to the Pirate Golf Course.

Clifton Lodge is supportive of local charities and each year chooses two causes to support for 12 months — this year it is Portland College and Friary, a charity that provides support for homeless people.

The funds raised will be put towards buying a two-seater wheelchair accessible vehicle for the college.

Eric Lovatt, Freemason and long-term supporter and volunteer for Portland College, said: “The work that both Portland College and the Friary do is fundamental to changing the lives of individuals, and Clifton Lodge is pleased to support such worthwhile causes.

“We know that the funds we raise will make a real impact on the lives of the people that both charities support.”

Damon Musgrove, fundraising manager at Portland College, added “We thank Clifton Lodge and all the surrounding communities of Mansfield and Ashfield, who came together to support such an enjoyable fundraising event.”
