Ashfield District Council is the only council to make 24 Housing Magazine’s prestigious top 50 landlords list — making it the best local authority landlord in the UK.

The list, compiled by 24 Housing, reflects those landlords committed to making good-quality service a priority and taking resident concerns seriously.

Housing providers are nominated and judged based on criteria, including commitment to value for money, community initiative, development and tenant engagement.

Since its return to the council from Ashfield Homes, performance has increased to be one of the best in the country for low rent arrears and reletting properties, while tenant satisfaction is more than 95%.

There has been a determined effort to tackle key issues such as domestic abuse and homelessness, with the council being the lead authority in securing £1.5m grants for partners across Nottinghamshire.

Coun Kier Barsby, cabinet member for housing, said: “To be the only council on the list is amazing and shows what a fantastic housing service we offer to tenants and residents.

“Having only come back into the council less than three years ago, the housing team should be exceptionally proud of what they’ve achieved.

“We have high customer satisfaction rates, low rent arrear rates, initiatives to improve our homelessness service and a range of support for those fleeing domestic abuse. The fact that our work has been recognised nationally shows the high quality of the service we deliver.”

Deputy chief executive Paul Parkinson added: “We have worked really hard as a Council to improve our service and only benchmark ourselves against the best social landlords in the country, as we know this is what our tenants would expect. It is fantastic that we are now considered the leading provider of stock retained housing in the UK”.
