Park still flying the flag on 25th anniversary

Posted onPosted on 25th Jul

Brierley Forest Park in Huthwaite has been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as one of the best — alongside six other green spaces in Ashfield.

This award is the park’s 16th consecutive Green Flag Award and marks the 25th year since the park opened in 1994.

Brierley Forest Park was one of the first community forest sites in the Greenwood Community Forest.

Coun Helen-Ann Smith, portfolio holder for streets, parks and green spaces, said: “We have recently assisted with the installation of the new wooden play equipment, which has vastly improved the play facilities.”

The Green Flag was raised by the leader of Ashfield District Council, Coun Jason Zadrozny (centre); deputy leader Coun Tom Hollis (left); and the chairman, Coun Anthony Brewer.

They were joined by representatives of the Brierley Forest Park Trust, Brierley Pond Fishing Club, Greenwood Community Forest and Brierley Café, as well as pupils and teachers from Healdswood Infant and Nursery School, Huthwaite.
