There is still time to join a worldwide event aimed at helping Mansfields everywhere to be cleaner and greener.

More than 20 schools, community groups, local businesses and individuals have signed up to take part in Mansfield District Council’s seventh International Clean Up Mansfield Day on Friday, 7th June.

The event is the culmination of a month-long council Be Tidy Together campaign that has seen 610 free bulky waste collections and 155 discounted electrical appliance collections in the first two weeks. The campaign also offered residents the chance to dispose of extra household waste in the first week.

Volunteers from various council departments, Oak Tree Conservation Group, Coun Andy Burgin, the Friends of Fisher Lane and Yeoman Hill parks, residents of Corner House care home, staff from Veolia and McDonald’s, members of the Mansfield Unitarian Church, the 6th Mansfield Brownies, Mansfield Woodhouse Mums and Dads Toddler Friendship Group, young people from The Social Action Hub, pupils from Asquith and Berry Hill primary schools, Clearways Counselling Service and Wainrights Primary Academy, Maun Conservation Group, Warsop Footpaths & Countryside Group and the Coal Authority are among those taking part in the clean up day this year.

Residents in the City of Mansfield in Texas, USA also joined the international efforts.

Sarah Troman, head of neighbourhood services at Mansfield District Council, said: “The Clean Up Day has become a great annual tradition in Mansfield here and at other Mansfields across the world, and we are delighted that groups and individuals have signed up to take part.

“We would like to say a big thank you to our residents for getting involved and to all the council teams who have supported the the whole Be Tidy Together campaign to make a huge difference to the district.

“Making Mansfield a greener and cleaner place is part of a wider council strategy to promote the district as a destination. We want more people to live here and more businesses to invest here so making the environment more attractive is an important part of that aim.

“Clean Up Day is an effective way to encourage community spirit and cohesion and encourages residents and people who work here to have pride in this district. It is a fitting conclusion to the Be Tidy Together campaign.”
