Donations wanted to help bridge digital skills gap

Posted onPosted on 24th Apr

Mansfield Community Voluntary Service (MCVS) is aiming to help the local community bridge the digital divide gap.

Digital skills are increasingly vital for individuals and also the economy.

A spokesman for the charity said: “Digital inclusion is about having the correct skills, access, motivation and trust to use computers and the internet with confidence.

“Approximately 12 million adults in the UK lack digital skills that are essential for full participation in today’s society; for work, life and learning.

“This can have a devastating effect on an individual’s health and well-being.”

Now MCVS, a charity that supports the community and voluntary sector within the Mansfield district, is looking into initiatives that can help remove some of the barriers people face and provide assisted digital support.

It is aiming to raise round £5,000 through donations from local business and the public at its JustGiving page — www.justgiving.com/campaign/digitalinclusionformansfield

MCVS wants to:
Provide a suitable space to accommodate sessions and projects
Provide a facilitator for sessions and projects
Develop a programme of sessions and events
Work with strategic partners such as the DWP, local authorities to run initiatives
