Donation is music to old folk’s ears

Elderly members of a club that helps fight loneliness and isolation have been able to listen to the sounds of a talented harpist, thanks to a donation from an IT support business.

Cornwater Evergreens, based in Ravenshead, provides companionship and a lively environment where older people can spend enjoyable days.

It regularly puts on a range of activities for its members, who are mainly from Ravenshead, Blidworth, Rainworth and Mansfield.

The charitable organisation uses RoundWorks IT, which has offices in Mansfield and in Nottingham, to provide IT support services.

RoundWorks is proud of its work with several charities and non-profit organisations, and often makes donations as a way of giving something back.

The company donated money to Cornwater, which has now been able to pay for a professional harpist, Christine Palethorpe, to play to members.

“It was wonderful,” said club member Mary Smith (82), after listening to Christine play. “She played some songs we all knew and it was lovely to listen to.”

Melissa Blythe, from Cornwater, which has a charity shop on Queen Street, Mansfield, said: “Christine is a brilliant harpist and everyone loved hearing her play. It was uplifting to see.

“For our members, it’s about doing something together and making friends. We are grateful to RoundWorks IT for making this happen.”

Luke Watts and Jenna Marshall, from RoundWorks, attended the session.

Jenna added: “I hadn’t really heard a harpist play before, but seeing the smiles on the faces of people was amazing.

It’s great to be able to see that our donation has made a small, but real, difference to people’s lives.”
