Pupils run their academy for a day

Children took over the running of their Mansfield school as part of a careers-inspired project.

The day at Wainwright Primary Academy, Mansfield, was organised by Jessica Chadburn as part of a wider scheme at the school, which is part of the Diverse Academies Learning Partnership, called the Aspirations Project.

The initiative is designed to support children to experience a wide range of possible careers and understand how to reach their career goals.

Children had to apply for their preferred role within the academy and were then interviewed by staff, gaining valuable experience of how the process would work when they eventually enter the world of work.

Year 6 pupil Leah, who took on the role of academy principal Lucy Spacey, (pictured) said: “I got to be involved in meetings, making some decisions about what the academy needs, inspecting lessons and also helping to make breakfast for some of the other pupils.

“I definitely want to be a teacher and then a principal now!’

Jessica said: “I’m pleased with the commitment our children showed.

“Showcasing a range of careers and giving pupils practical experience of undertaking them is important — we constantly want to raise aspirations.”
