Snail racing fundraiser

A Rotary Club is staging a fundraising event described as “the slowest and funniest racing you’ll ever see”.

In the past Kirkby Rotary Club has put on successful fundraising horse and ferret races.

Now it is staging snail races alongside a range of specialty cask ales and a gin bar.

The event will be at The Summit Centre, Pavilion Road, off Lowmoor Road, Kirkby, on Saturday, October 20th. The bar opens at 5pm and racing begins at 7pm. Hot food will be available and there is free parking.

Tickets, which include one free bet, cost £5 for adults and £3 for under-16s, and can be obtained from The Summit Centre or event organiser Rotarian Neil Lancashire on 07831 691326, or from any Kirkby Rotary member.

“It’s the first time we’ve done snail racing”, Neil said. “It promises to be a great fun night out for all the family.”

Proceeds will go to support Rotary projects.
