Relay challenge’s Newstead Abbey pitstop

Posted onPosted on 7th Jun

Charity chief executive Simone Enefer-Doy made a pit stop at Newstead Abbey as part of a road trip with a difference in a bid to raise the profile of little-known children’s charity Lifelites.

The challenge — dubbed A Lift For Lifelites — asked for lifts through every county in England and Wales, taking in nearly 50 famous landmarks en route in just 14 days.

As well as Newstead Abbey, Simone stopped at landmarks such as Hadrian’s Wall, the Angel Of The North, Bletchley Park, and Brighton Royal Pavilion in vehicles including a classic Rolls Royce, camper van, four-seater plane, E Type Jaguar and even a zip wire.

For the Nottinghamshire leg of the journey the vehicle, a classic Jaguar, was donated by volunteers from the local Freemasons. Simone was accompanied by a gold Rolls-Royce and a DeLorean, which had driven her from Derbyshire.

Simone said: “Nottinghamshire Freemasons are great supporters of Lifelites. We were so grateful that they stepped forward to volunteer their vehicles and time.”

The head of Nottinghamshire Freemasons, Philip Marshall, said: “We were proud to support Simone on her 2,500-mile challenge around England and Wales.

“Simone’s dedication in completing the challenge mirrors the dedication Lifelites demonstrates in improving the lives of children and young people with life-limiting and disabling conditions.”

Lifelites supports the 10,000 children using children’s hospices in the UK.

Simone said: “We help to enhance the lives of life-limited and disabled children in hospices by donating and maintaining specialist technology to help them play, be creative, control something for themselves, and communicate, for as long as possible.

Lifelites has a package of technology at every children’s hospice and its work is entirely funded by donations.
