Final call for Clean Up Day

There is still time to join a worldwide event aimed at helping Mansfields everywhere to be cleaner and greener.

Nearly 40 schools, community groups, local businesses and individuals have already signed up to take part in Mansfield District Council’s sixth International Clean Up Mansfield Day on Friday 8 June.

Volunteers including Friends groups, various council departments, residents of Corner House care home, Mansfield MP Ben Bradley, staff from Veolia, Barclays Bank, Marks and Spencer, Swinton Insurance, Specsavers, Mansfield BID, and members of Mansfield Labour West Branch are among those taking part in a range of projects aimed at making the district an even more attractive place to live, work and visit.

Planned activities, which can take place on any date and not just on 8 June, range from picking litter in parks and school grounds, weeding, painting street furniture and cleaning windows in town centre premises.

Residents in the City of Mansfield in Texas, USA are among those joining the international efforts.

Last year’s clean-up was the biggest and best yet, attracting more than 60 groups of volunteers who spruced up the district – and beyond – by picking up litter, painting Titchfield Park pavilion and town centre benches, planting bulbs and removing chewing gum.

Cllr Andrew Tristram, Portfolio Holder for the Environment at Mansfield District Council, said: “I am delighted so many groups and individuals have already signed up to take part.

“We hope even more will sign up and help to make this event our biggest yet and achieve our aim of improving the local environment not only here in Mansfield but in other Mansfields across the world.”

You can sign up to take part in this year’s event online at www.mansfield.gov.uk/cleanup and if you like the International Clean Up Mansfield Day Facebook page at facebook.com/cleanupmansfield, you can keep up to date with the latest news and share your own activities and photos.

Awards will be presented to the best clean-up contributors at a ceremony in September.
