GCSE pupils celebrate achievements at Sutton Community Academy

Pupils at Sutton Community Academy, part of Academy Transformation Trust, are celebrating their GCSE achievements.

A total of 52% of the cohort achieved a grade 4-9 English and maths.

Tim Croft, principal at the academy, said: “I am delighted that our English and maths headline measure is 10% improved on last year and over 50% for the first time in the school’s history.

“This represents a fantastic achievement for our pupils and their families as well as to all the staff that have worked so hard to get them to this point.

“We expect our progress figure to be in line with the national one when this data is released later in the term but are particularly pleased to report that the progress of disadvantaged pupils has narrowed yet again and is in line with that of all other pupils.

“In the English baccalaureate, we have also surpassed our achievement last year and expect to be above National averages which is excellent.”

The results come in the same year as the academy achieved a good Ofsted judgement with outstanding leadership and pupils welfare.

Amongst many pupils at the academy celebrating their success are:
•Lucy Rickers who achieved grade 7 in English and English Literature, and grade 4 in maths alongside 1 A*, 3 x A and 4 x B.
•Luke Brooks who scored grades 5 and 6 in English, grade 7 in maths, 1 x A*, 2 As and 3 Bs
•Natalie Barnes who gained grades 6 6 in English, grade 5 in maths, 2 As and 6 Bs
•Jac Crisp who achieved grades 6 and 7 in English, grade 6 in maths, 2 x As and 4 x Bs.

Ian Cleland, chief executive officer at Academy Transformation Trust, commented: “The trust celebrates with its academies their continued excellent progress in the achievement of their pupils.

“Over the last four years, from The trust’s baseline in 2013, there has been a good trend of improvement. This year results have shown even greater improvement and we are delighted that no academies are below the floor standard. Congratulations to all the pupils and staff at Sutton Community Academy in gaining reward and recognition for their hard work and commitment over the year.”
