The Samworth Church Academy in Mansfield said it was delighted with its students achieving 60% in both English and maths at GCSE, despite the changes in assessment and content in the subjects.

A spokesman said: “We have also seen further improvement in the progress of our young people, which they have made in their chosen subjects.

“Our students, through their hard work and determination, are now in a position to move on with their studies or begin work-based training, due to the success that is reflected in the results.

“It is also important to recognise the hard work of the academy staff and the support of parents and carers too.”
