Visitors can step back in time at Rufford Abbey later this month as the country park hosts a show of different historical periods from Roman times to the present day.

Nottinghamshire County Council is preparing to host the sixth Grand Historical Bazaar at Rufford Abbey Country Park on April 26th and 27th, organised in conjunction with EventPlan.

As well as living history encampments, and re-enactors reliving different periods of history, there is the opportunity to look through and purchase a wide range of artefacts and items on more than 80 trader stalls and 30 living history groups.

People are invited to bring along those unwanted historical items and it is a chance to sell, swap, buy new and second hand clothing, uniforms, model soldiers, weaponry, antiques, pictures and books.

Coun John Knight, committee chairman for culture, said: “The Grand Historical Bazaar is an action-packed weekend where people will get the chance to explore different periods of history, enjoy living history scenes and combat scenes and look for exciting artefacts and items.”

Phil Meadows will introduce the crowds to the weekend with a World War Two bagpipes performance and this will be followed by a range of different performance groups including:

• Tudor weaponry, performed by The Tudor Group
• First Century Roman soldiers, arms and armour, performed by Vexillatio Legionis Geminae
• Early medieval combat, performed by Conroi de Vey
• A Napoleonic skirmish, performed by The Black Horde Society
• Medieval combat , performed by The Knights of Skirbeck
• Medieval archery, with The Bowden Retinue
• Fourth century Roman soldiers, arms and armour, performed by Comitatus
• Crusader and Saracen Battle, performed by the Crusade and Re-enacting Ancient Times Society
• 18th Century and Napoleonic redcoats, with musket firing, performed by Lambton’s 68th Foot, The Coldstream Regiment of Foot Guards 1815 and 33rd (West Yorkshire) Regiment of Foot
• AFS & NFS Vehicle Group with a number of performances from the World War Two period, the British Army from the 1980s to modern times.

In a poignant year commemorating 100 years since the start of the Great War, re-enactors will depict Russian soldiers from World War One on the Saturday.

There will also be a range of classic vehicles including from The Ambulance Heritage Society, Bellington Hall Vintage Renovations (1930s caravan), Mansfield Fire Preservation Society. There will also be other music from a range of acts including medieval music from Peasants Revolt and 1940s music and song from Marina Mae.
